This is a well established plant, 6 leaves with a new one just starting, in specialist aroid potting mix.
The Monstera Thai Constellation is a beautiful variation of the popular Monstera deliciosa plant, renowned for its unique foliage. Characterised by its variegated leaves, each leaf features irregular splashes and speckles of creamy white, reminiscent of constellations scattered across a night sky. This variegation adds a special quality to the plant, making it a coveted choice among houseplant enthusiasts and collectors alike. As the plant matures, its leaves develop distinct fenestrations, natural splits, further enhancing its appeal.
Provide your plant with bright light and be careful to avoid direct sun which will burn the foliage. Your plant will have a well established root mass and be in the best, free-draining potting mix. The clear pot will show you the roots, and whether there is any moisture in the pot – if it looks moist, don’t water. If the mix looks dry to the base, then give it a good watering, allowing the excess water to drain away. It won’t thrive if it’s waterlogged. It does not need high humidity to grow well, most Tasmanian houses are sufficiently humid for this plant. With proper care, this plant can grow vigorously, regularly producing larger leaves that will have variegation to varying degrees. This is a relatively low maintenance plant, requiring feeding while it’s growing.
This plant in a small (100mm) pot is well established, with at least 4 leaves.
To provide optimal growing conditions for this plant in your home, consider the following guidelines:
- Light: Monsteras thrive in a location where it can see the sky but not receive direct sun. Direct sun will scorch the leaves. Place it near a window with filtered sunlight or in a well-lit room.
- Temperature: This plant prefers average to warm temperatures between 16°C to 28°C. Protect it from cold drafts and sudden chills, as temperatures below 13°C can harm the plant.
- Humidity: Monstera don’t need high humidity levels. Most homes in Tasmania are sufficiently humid, but if the air in your home is dry consider using a humidifier or fogger, or cluster this plant with other houseplants to create a more moist micro environment.
- Watering: It likes to be kept moist but should not be wet. It can tolerate a little dryness, but don’t make a habit of that. Ensure proper drainage to prevent waterlogging, as this can lead to root rot. Allow excess water to drain away, and empty the saucer underneath to avoid standing water.
- Potting mix: Use a well-draining potting mix. A mixture of coconut husks, perlite, and orchid bark works well. Avoid over-compacting the soil, as it can hinder drainage. Our Jungle Mix is ideal.
- Fertiliser: Feed your plant with a balanced, water-soluble fertiliser formulated for foliage houseplants once a month while there is active growth. If the plant is kept indoors, this can be all year round. Follow the instructions on the fertiliser packaging for proper dilution and application. We use and recommend Growth Technology Foliage Focus for all our plants.
- Pests: Keep an eye out for common houseplant pests like aphids, spider mites, and mealybugs. If you notice any infestation, isolate the plant and treat it with an appropriate insecticidal soap or neem oil. Consult with these links for more information about houseplant pests.
